WASHINGTON, D.C.  In his State of the Union Address, President Biden emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change and building resilient clean energy infrastructure. He highlighted the potential of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to spur necessary investments in clean energy technologies and urged Congress to continue to make progress on these important priorities.

The Nuclear Innovation Alliance (NIA) shared the following statement on the release of a new report, “Transforming the U.S. Department of Energy: Paving the Way to Commercialize Advanced Nuclear Energy.” This new publication provides recommendations on how DOE can be more effective in helping to commercialize advanced nuclear energy technologies. These recommendations include, for example, developing an advanced nuclear energy earthshot, adopting a more businesslike approach, and improving DOE’s program integration efforts.

$5 Million Included in Appropriations to Help Cover Advanced Nuclear Reactor Licensing Fees

WASHINGTON D.C. Advanced nuclear reactor companies are achieving rapid progress and are quickly moving towards the deployment of first-of-a-kind (FOAK) reactors. These novel technologies are poised to help combat climate change and meet energy security needs but will need to first be licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The NRC is the independent federal agency that licenses and permits the construction and operation of nuclear reactors in the United States. For several years, there have been bi-partisan efforts in Congress to modernize the NRC’s operations to reduce barriers to advanced nuclear energy deployment.
